Fire is destruction itself. Without an alchemist's hand, it kills and tears down villages, cities and towns. Add it to a man and he becomes the wielder of it. Man itself is already dangerous enough, a few with flames at the beck and call is more threatening. Its meant to be hidden and pushed away. No one should see the secrets. I see that now.

Riza is the reason that Roy’s transmutation circle is on his gloves, as opposed to tattooed on his hands like most other alchemists. She says that he is more important than his alchemy, and must be able to separate himself from it. Her father could not, and she suffered from that. He says that only one of them should bare such a permanent mark.
